Background: Daniela Torre Gibney is a senior associate partner at Bellwether in the Policy and Evaluation practice area. Her work focuses on supporting programs and informing policies that improve teaching and school quality, particularly for multilingual learners and marginalized students. Daniela is an expert at designing and implementing complex mixed-methods evaluations and research projects as well as providing technical assistance to organizational leaders focused on using data for continuous improvement. Prior to joining Bellwether, Daniela worked at SRI International, where she led foundation- and federally-funded evaluations that assessed the implementation and impact of educational programs, teacher preparation reforms, and professional development initiatives in schools, districts, Charter Management Organizations, and institutions of higher education.
Daniela received a doctorate in leadership and policy studies from Vanderbilt University and earned a master’s degree in teaching English to speakers of other languages from American University in Washington, D.C. She taught in bilingual, English as a second language, and general education classrooms for five years in Washington, D.C., and Brooklyn, New York.
Why I do this work: My parents always told me that they came to the U.S. from Argentina for work, but stayed so that my brother, sister, and I could access an excellent education. I’ve learned through my experiences as a student, teacher, and researcher that an excellent education is out of reach for too many students, and I do this work to help build a system where schools reduce rather than reproduce inequality.
